As a neurosurgeon who specializes in the treatment of skull base tumors and vascular diseases of the brain, Dr. Hornyak's main interests lie in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of skull base lesions. He uses advanced surgical techniques to offer the maximal treatment with a minimum of invasion. These techniques include the use of the surgical endoscope and approaches through the paranasal sinuses, as well as the use of stereotactic radiosurgery when appropriate. Dr. Hornyak applies these tools to a vast array of diseases, but his clinical interest lies in the treatment and research of benign skull base tumors such as meningioma, schwannoma, and pituitary adenoma.

Along with treating brain tumors, Dr. Hornyak specializes in treating diseases of the blood vessels of the brain. Here he also uses a number of advanced techniques in surgically treating aneurysms, AVMs, and stroke.

Although Dr. Hornyak specializes in brain tumors and vascular lesions, he is a geneneral neurosurgeon skilled in complex spinal surgery, head and spine trauma, and neurological care.

Dr. Hornyak is an active member in both national and international neurosurgical societies. He also maintains academic pursuits; he has authored many papers and book chapters and takes an enthusiastic interest in teaching the residents and medical students at Wayne State University where he has been appointed an Assistant Professor
