Background:

Dr. Jagannathan is a board eligible neurosurgeon specializing in complex spine surgery, radiosurgery and neuro-oncology. He will serve as the Director of the Minimally Invasive spine program at St. Mary?s Hospital and operates DMC and Karmanos Cancer Center with both the neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery spine services. He performs all open and minimally invasive procedures related to complex spine, spinal oncology and deformity, including open and percutaneous pedicle screw fixation TLIF, ALIF, DLIF, vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty and spinal radiosurgery. He is also trained to perform artificial disk replacement using Prodisk-C and Prodisk-L technology. He has special interests in sports related brain and spine injury and will be working on programs in this area with local professional, semi-professional and amateur athletes.

Dr. Jagannathan completed his neurosurgical training at the University of Virginia and Wayne State University with subspecialty training in neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery spine. Additionally, he spent a year as a clinical neuro-oncology fellow at the National Institutes for Neurologic Disorders and Stroke (National Institutes of Health) and as a senior Registrar at Auckland City Hospital in New Zealand.

He has published over 80 peer reviewed papers and book chapters in the areas of spine surgery, radiosurgery and neuro-oncology and was a recipient of the Synthes Award for craniofacial research as well as the Cone Pevehouse Award for socioecomomic research from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. He was also recently named a ?rising star? in spine surgery by In-Spine magazine. He is actively involved in organized neurosurgery and serves as a member of the executive committee of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and Congress of Neurological Surgeons(CNS) joint section on tumors. He has also served on the AANS Young Neurosurgeon?s Committee, and the CNS Scientific Program Committee as well as the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies.
