Background:
Andrew R. Xavier, M.D. joined the Department of Neurological
Surgery in September of 2006. Dr. Xavier is a graduate of the Jawaharlal
Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research in India and completed
his neurology residency at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. Dr.
Xavier also completed a Stroke/Vascular Neurology fellowship at the State
University of New York (SUNY), University at Buffalo and a fellowship in
Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology at the University of Medicine &
Dentistry in New Jersey. Dr. Xavier was previously an Assistant Professor in
the Departments of Neurology and Radiology at the University of Florida. He had
also worked as a clinical associate at the National Institute of Neurological
Diseases and Stroke (NINDS) in Bethesda, MD. He joins our department as an
Assistant Professor, and has co-appointments in the Departments of Neurology
and Radiology. Dr. Xavier has over 20 referred publications and book chapters,
and has lectured nationally and internationally. He is board certified in
neurology and Stroke/Vascular neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and
Neurology (ABPN). He is a senior member of the American Society of Therapetutic
and Interventional Neuroradiology (ASITN), and is a founding member of the
Board of Directors of the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology
(SVIN). His primary clinical interests are endovascular neurosurgery, stroke,
vascular neurology and interventional neuroradiology. He specializes in
minimally invasive treatment for stroke, aneurysm and cerebral hemorrhage.
